Sunset Crater National Monument
Sunset Crater is the largest cinder cone in the volcanic field to the east of the San Francisco Peaks. It was formed quite recently in geologic times, during the time when the area was populated by Native American tribes. The eruptions that formed the cinder cones, spatter cones and surrounding lava flows feature prominently in their oral history.
