Namibia, Zimbabwe and Botswana Tour

Posted by on May 23rd, 2017

We recently took a SmarTours trip to southern Africa, visiting Namibia, Zimbabwe and Botswana, plus a quick walk across the bridge into Zambia (giving us a fourth pin to put into the map). The photo album is online for your viewing pleasure.

Once again, SmarTours came through with an interesting itinerary, good accommodations and an eclectic group of fellow travelers. This was our seventh SmarTours trip and we recommend them for price and quality.

Star Flyer Cruise

Posted by on December 27th, 2015

Over Thanksgiving week, we flew to Panama City, Panama and boarded the Star Flyer for a cruise that transited the Panama Canal from Pacific to Caribbean and then sailed north to San Andres, Providencia and dropped us off at Grand Cayman. (The European and Canadian passengers continued on to Cuba.) The ship is small and intimate, with about 150 passengers on this itinerary. Sailing close to the wind, and with a cabin far forward in the bow, the ride was a bit rough but the opportunity to be on a sailing vessel was worth the extra effort of hanging on. The photo album is online for your viewing pleasure.

Touring Cuba

Posted by on August 15th, 2015

Back in January, we spent a week touring Cuba. We had already booked the trip when the U.S. government started opening up relations with Cuba, so it was a good time to go, before the invading hordes of U.S. tourists arrive once the process of getting tour permissions is eased.

Sorry that it took a while to finish selecting and editing photos but the photo album is posted for your viewing pleasure.

India/Nepal Photo Album

Posted by on March 5th, 2014

In January, 2014, we spent two weeks touring India and Nepal. In addition to the traditional tourist sites like the Taj Mahal in Agra, we visited several other cities in India and several locations in and around Kathmandu, Nepal. The photo album is posted for your perusal.

I am experimenting with a different “skin” for my photo albums. If you right click on the link and tell your browser to open it in a new window, then maximize the window, images will be displayed larger on your monitor.  The “play” icon in the upper right will run the album as a slide show, 4-second interval.  (You may change that if you wish)  Also, when navigating manually through the larger images, the right/left arrow keys on you keyboard will move to the next/previous image in the album.

australia, cruise, tasmania

Over Nathan’s Christmas break, we flew to Sydney, Australia, for a cruise up to Vanuatu and New Caledonia. After returning to Sydney, we flew down to Hobart, Tasmania for a couple of days before coming back to Sydney once again for the New Year’s celebrations. For Nathan, Australia marked his seventh continent and one hundredth country (per the Travelers Century Club list).

The photo album is online.
